Charles Town and Shepherdstown Homes and Real Estate for Sale in West Virginia
| Charles Town and Shepherdstown Real Estate | - | West Virginia Real Estate |
Charles Town and Shepherdstown are located in Jefferson County. Charles Town was founded in 1786 on land owned by Charles Washington – the youngest brother of George Washington, and for whom the town is named. Situated on the banks of the Potomac River, Shepherdstown was chartered in 1762 and is the state’s oldest town. Both richly historic communities are home to a number of educational sites. Charles Town has six homes built by the Washington family, while Shepherdstown was the site of James Rumsey’s demonstration of a steam-powered boat in 1787. In commemoration, the town holds the annual Rumsey Regatta Festival. Other area festivals include the House and Garden Tour, the Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival, Thunder in the Valley Civil War Re-enactment, an American Experience celebration and fireworks at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, the Jefferson County Fair, Wine and Craft Festival, Pumpkin Fest, and Christmas Festivals. The rolling hills and serene rural countryside in Charles Town and Shepherdstown provide a stunning backdrop for the towns’ good schools, affordable homes, friendly people, and excellent shopping. The Shenandoah Valley and the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers provide recreation, as do city and county parks. Activities include hiking, whitewater rafting, fishing, swimming, boating, bicycling, horseback riding, motorcycle rentals and golf. Shepherdstown & Charles Town real estate offerings are affordable, with a variety of single-family homes for sale, condos and townhouses available in a wide range of prices. You’ll be part of our nation’s past, present, and future when you make Charles Town or Shepherdstown your home.
